Opposition Jobbik slams government’s nation policy |

Hungary’s centre-right government has done much less in the past two years for the ethnic kin living in neighbouring countries than it would have been expected, the deputy chairman of the radical nationalist Jobbik party said on Friday.

The Fidesz-led government have only made achievements in “symbolic and emotional” issues, by adopting the law on national cohesion and the dual citizenship law, introducing a Trianon remembrance day and the compulsory school excursions abroad to a Hungarian community, Zoltan Balczo said.

The party called on the governing alliance to pursue a more determinate policy in supporting the idea of autonomy and in standing for Hungarians affected by violations of rights.

During parliament’s autumn season, Jobbik will campaign for a form of autonomy the Swedish minority enjoys in Finland and will press the government towards supporting such endeavours undertaken by the Szekler National Council in Romania.
