Slovakia’s general elections bring end to anti-Roma Slovak National Party presence in parliament. Their racist election campaign obviously didn’t work!
Excerpt:
“Most notably the ultranationalist Slovak National Party, or SNS, whose booze-loving chairman Jan Slota once promised to use tanks to drive the ethnic Hungarians out of Slovakia, didn’t get enough votes to secure parliamentary seats.
For the first time since Slovakia’s independence from the Czechoslovak federation in 1992, nationalists got out of big league politics. It’s even more noteworthy given the SNS running a campaign openly against Roma, or Gypsies, and ethnic Hungarians. About 400,000 Roma and almost 500,000 Hungarians live in Slovakia, which has a population of 5.4 million.”
