Roma in Finland

About 100 foreign Roma are believed to be spending the winter in Helsinki and nearby areas.

Not even those who work with them know where the itinerant Roma are living after the camp at Kalasatama in Helsinki was shut down last year.

“We do not have clear information about where they are living. To our knowledge none are sleeping on the streets or in cars”, says Pekka Tuomola, the director of the Hirundoa day centre run by the Deaconess institute.
